Event Details

Conceived in the musical hotbed of New York City's Lower East Side, Polygraph Lounge is the duo of Rob Schwimmer and Mark Stewart. Plundering the common cultural currency of yesterday, today and tomorrow, the virtuosic duo specializes in musical hilarity/anarchy in the Spike Jones tradition. Individually, Rob and Mark have worked with a who's who list of artists including: Paul Simon, Wayne Shorter, Steve Reich, Laurie Anderson, Bang on a Can, Stevie Wonder, Annette Peacock, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Willie Nelson, Anthony Braxton, Kurt Vonnegut, and many more. Joining them will be their amazingly versatile vocalist, Melissa Fathman. Dec 16th provides a rib-tickling musical rollercoaster ride in the spirit of Spike Jones, Victor Borge, PDQ Bach, and Weird Al Yankovic—featuring an audience noseflute choir. Dec 17th, of a slightly more serious nature, shows off their stunning musicianship with works by Steve Reich, David Lang, Manuel De Falla, Rob Schwimmer and Mark Stewart.

Event Details

Rocky Mountain Revels will again take the stage at the Gordon Gamm Theater to drive the dark away and celebrate the return of the light, as we sing and dance celebrating the Winter Solstice and Christmas. We will be joined by the Boulder Renaissance Consort and members of Solis in songs both profound and profane. Our look at secular and sacred music of the Elizabethan Era features madrigals, rounds, catches AND Revels favorites like Lord of the Dance, Sussex Mummers Carol, and the Shortest Day. This year Shakespeare, in a fit of rage, has decided to burn his manuscripts. Just before being consigned to the flames, his characters appear for one valiant attempt at saving his plays and, incidentally, their lives. See if Toby, Puck, Macbeth, and the rest convince him to let them live in an evening of revelry that will leave you humming until the daylight returns. Rocky Mountain Revels is grateful for dedicated fans like you, whose donations ensure we maintain high quality shows here at the Dairy.

Event Details

Director Irene Taylor Brodsky once again turns the camera on her deaf parents and, now, her 11-year-old deaf son Jonas, who has cochlear implants and is discovering a profound world of hearing--and music. As Jonas learns the first movement of Beethoven's iconic sonata on the piano, his grandparents, deaf for nearly 80 years, watch with deepening awe what time and technology have bestowed their grandson. But when Jonas struggles with the sound of his mistakes, Beethoven's own musical journey comes to life in an animated world of watercolor and haunting soundscapes. As the great composer loses the sense that brought him so much music and fame, Jonas's grandfather Paul loses his grasp on his mind. Their lives weave a sonata over three centuries, about all we can discover once we push beyond what has been lost. (Irene Taylor Brodsky, 2019, USA, 1:30, NR)

Event Details

On an isolated road passing through the vast barren plains of Tibet, a truck driver, who has accidentally run over a sheep, chances upon a young man, who is hitching a ride. As they drive and chat, the truck driver notices that his new friend has a silver dagger strapped to his leg. He comes to understand that his man is out to kill someone, who wronged him earlier in life. As he drops the hitchhiker off at a fork in the road, little does the truck driver realize that their short time together has changed everything, and that their destinies are inexorably intertwined. Event Details

Since bursting onto the music scene in 1967, Linda Ronstadt has been an icon for more than 50 years. Her extraordinary vocal range and ambition created unforgettable songs across rock, pop, country, folk ballads, American standards, classic Mexican music and soul. As the most popular female recording artist of the 1970s – with songs like “You’re No Good,” “When Will I Be Loved,” and “Blue Bayou”—Ronstadt filled huge arenas and produced an astounding eleven Platinum albums. Ronstadt was the first artist to top the Pop, Country, and R&B charts simultaneously, she won 10 Grammy Awards ® on 26 nominations and attained a level of stardom the Tucson native never could have imagined. In LINDA RONSTADT: THE SOUND OF MY VOICE, Ronstadt is our guide through her early years of singing Mexican canciones with her family; her folk days with the Stone Poneys; and her reign as the “rock queen” of the ‘70s and early ’80s. She was a pioneer for women in the male-dominated music industry; a passionate advocate for human rights, and had a high-profile romance with California Governor Jerry Brown. Ultimately, her singing voice was stilled by illness and forced her into retirement but her music and influence remain as timeless as ever. With moving performance footage and appearances by friends and collaborators including Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris, Bonnie Raitt and Jackson Browne, LINDA RONSTADT: THE SOUND OF MY VOICE celebrates an artist whose desire to share the music she loved made generations of fans fall in love with her — and the sound of her voice.
