If you have ever lived in a college town, you know that in the early fall, new youthful energy is brought into the community. The city of Boulder is no different, as Boulder comes alive in August with students returning to the University of Colorado – Boulder campus. Move-in weekend took place this past weekend and school started August 23.
Approximately 35,000 students enroll each year, with about 59.7% Colorado residents and 39.3% from out of state or international. The University provides 24 residence halls and two apartment-style living halls. Most of these accommodations are used by the 6,400 freshmen who are required to live on campus and have a meal plan. The majority of the student body finds housing throughout Boulder by living off-campus. The popular places to live are The Hill, around Boulder High School which is near to the university and downtown, in South Boulder and the Table Mesa area. The cost to live in these areas is quite high, with individual rent from $700 to $1,000+ per month. Many parents choose to purchase apartments or homes as an investment while their children are attending CU, however, this cost is also expensive.
